Chilam WONG

Chilam Wong was born and raised in Hong Kong. Her practice spans photography, videography, and art therapy, grounded in a humanistic and culturally sensitive approach. She understands photography not as a tool to reinforce dominant power structures, but as a medium for connection, empowerment, and a pursuit of truth and justice.
She graduated in Journalism and Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During her studies at the University of Texas at Austin, she further developed her photographic practice while working as an assistant to Magnum photographer Eli Reed. Returning to Hong Kong, she documented human stories and moments of social unrest, with her work published in Apple Daily (Hong Kong, now defunct), Vice News, Anadolu Agency, and Getty Images. She also worked as a multimedia producer for Greenpeace East Asia, creating powerful imagery for environmental and social campaigns.
Her documentary video works have reached wide audiences, with her two most viewed pieces hitting 2.5 million and 1.7 million views on YouTube (as of 2025).
In 2024, she was selected as one of the exhibiting artists in the Hong Kong International Photo Festival, where she presented 20422 KM, a project documenting the search for home shared between her partner and herself.
Since being introduced to PhotoTherapy, Chilam has taken an approach to photography that seeks deeper emotional connection and an inward listening. She promoted PhotoTherapy in Hong Kong through workshops and talks, and in 2024 she began training in art psychotherapy in London. Her current focus is on exploring how photographic expression can support both individual and collective wellbeing, and how it can enter into dialogue with traditional art therapy practices.
